39 – Fri10Jan2025 – *Sent by the church* - _Acts 12:01-19_ – JAMES KILLED BUT PETER RELEASED – _Ephesians 04:11-13_
_Acts 12:12 So, when he had considered this, *he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark*, where many were gathered together praying._
The church is where people are nurtured and sent out for ministry.
The church met in the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark. John Mark accompanied Paul and Barnabas on their missionary journey. _Acts 12:25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark._
John Mark departed from them, while they were on their journey. _Acts 13:13 Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem._
This departure of John Mark from the ministry caused a rift between Paul and Barnabas, separating them from each other. _Acts 15:37-40 Now Barnabas was determined to take with them John called Mark. (38) But Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. (39) Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus; (40) but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God._
At the end of his life, Paul reconciled with John Mark. _II Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me. *Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry*._
The important lesson is that the church is the place that sends out missionaries. The church in the home of Mary sent out a missionary.
_Acts 13:1-3 Now *in the church that was at Antioch* there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (2) *As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." (3) Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away*._
The church is in the world to send out missionaries into the world. _John 17:18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world._
We are sent out into the world by God, and the church cradles us, feeds us, prepares us, and sends us out for our ministries in the world. _Ephesians 4:11-13 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, (12) *for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry*, for the edifying of the body of Christ, (13) till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;_
*Where we are placed is for God’s ministry*.
The Creation Mandate is to fill the earth, subdue it and bring the dominion of God. _Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; *fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion* over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."_
To fill the earth is to take every occupation as a means to replenish the earth. The Lord God gave Adam a specific task to do. _Genesis 2:15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it._
‘To tend’ in Hebrew is Avodha, where we worship God with our work and we also serve humanity. ‘To Keep’ in Hebrew is Shamar, which means to keep God’s commandments and to take care and protect.
To subdue is to conquer our workplaces, which means to fully know our work by being people of excellence. To have dominion is to bring God's kingdom rule into our workplaces. We are responsible before God for our workplaces.
We do what we do for God's glory and His name. _I Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, *do all to the glory of God*._ / _Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, *do all in the name of the Lord Jesus*, giving thanks to God the Father through Him._ / _Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, *do it heartily, as to the Lord* and not to men, (24) knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; *for you serve the Lord Christ*._
*Thus, our workplaces are not secular nor are places only to earn our livelihood. They are sacred and are places for ministry. This is where we connect with the world. This is where the Great Commission applies*.
_Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (19) *Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations*, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen._
