Acts 17 - Series 02/Episode 22 - Fri 30th Oct 2026 - Paul's concern for the churches - Acts 17:10-15 - MINISTRY IN BEREA - II Corinthians 11:28

Acts 17:13-14 But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the crowds. (14) Then immediately the brethren sent Paul away, to go to the sea; but both Silas and Timothy remained there.

Silas and Timothy remained in Berea. There was more work to be done, for which Silas and Timothy remained there. Paul had to leave Berea to avoid the violence. As we have seen earlier, it is important to be wise regarding persecution while remaining faithful to the Gospel. The Berean believers sent a team to escort Paul. Acts 17:15 So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.

The pattern of the ministry of Paul was to always strengthen the new believers and establish the church. Acts 14:21-23 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, (22) strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God." (23) So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. / Acts 15:36 Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing." Paul and Silas's ministry was also to build the churches. Acts 15:40-41 but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God. (41) And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Paul positioned his team to build up the church in different places. I Thessalonians 3:1-2 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone, (2) and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,

Silas and Timothy later rejoined Paul in Corinth. Acts 18:5 When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. These verses show how the team moved in response to the needs and circumstances of the mission,

We see how Paul was concerned for the growth and strengthening of the churches. I Thessalonians 3:6-7 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you- (7) therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were comforted concerning you by your faith.

Paul was concerned to build the church in Corinth. I Corinthians 4:17 For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church. Paul's instruction to Titus was that he should strengthen the church in Crete. Titus 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you-

Paul explains his ministry to the church in Colosse. Colossians 1:27-29 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (28) Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. (29) To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

Paul saw himself as a spiritual parent. Galatians 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, / He saw himself and his team as mothers to the new believers. I Thessalonians 2:7-8 But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. (8) So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

He also saw himself as a father. I Corinthians 4:15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. / I Thessalonians 2:11-12 as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, (12) that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

Paul always carried the concern for the churches. II Corinthians 11:28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
