*Being wise and understanding* _Luke 12:54-59_

_Luke 12:58-59 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every effort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. I tell you, you shall not depart from there till you have paid the very last mite."_

We have been looking at the teaching of our Lord to be understanding of our times. In these two verses, we see Jesus giving some very wise and practical teaching of how we can be kingdom people.

We need to be pursuing the things that make for peace and the things by which we can edify and build people. _For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another Romans 14:17-19._

We need to be wise not to become surety for our friend or shake hands in pledge for a stranger. These are such wise and practical ethos that will give us a good life. People who do not follow this wise teaching, have experienced long term pain and sorrow in their life. _My son, if you become surety for your friend, If you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger, You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth. So do this, my son, and deliver yourself; For you have come into the hand of your friend: Go and humble yourself; Plead with your friend. Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids. Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, And like a bird from the hand of the fowler Proverbs 6:1-5._

If it is possible, as much as depends on us we must live peaceably with all men. _Therefore "IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM; IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP COALS OF FIRE ON HIS HEAD." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good Romans 12:20-21._

We need the wisdom that comes from above to follow these values. This is the understanding that enables us to be people of His kingdom. _For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace James 3:16-18._

*Thoughts to ponder*

```Are we living in wisdom and experiencing His kingdom?```
