Luke 12 54-56
*Walking before God with understanding* _Luke 12:54-57_
_Luke 12:57 “Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?_
The religious leaders were not willing to believe in Jesus. They were so strongly entrenched in their self righteousness. The Lord in several places expresses His concern for them that they were not willing to humble themselves and trust in Him. _Matthew 21:32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him._
Paul and Barnabas were preaching at the synagogue in Antioch and they presented to the Jews as well as the Gentiles, the authenticity of Jesus as the Messiah. The Jews were not willing to believe. _Acts 13:40-46 Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you: 'BEHOLD, YOU DESPISERS, MARVEL AND PERISH! FOR I WORK A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL BY NO MEANS BELIEVE, THOUGH ONE WERE TO DECLARE IT TO YOU.' " So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles._
May the Lord enable all of us to always have a heart of humility and brokenness, ready to believe and obey Him.
*Thought to ponder*
```Let us always walk before the Lord with understanding.```
