The accusation that the Jews levelled against the apostles was a matter related to authority. Authority is what the devil desires.
The devil brings about his rule through various instruments, in combination. Society is one of the instruments with which the devil rules people. If there is a death in a family, society expects and forces the family, who are already hurting, to spend money on various social events. This forces the family in grief to borrow money at exorbitant interest rates to conduct the event. Society dictates that since a person is born into a particular category, they must remain within the confines of that class.
Culture, religion, personal ego, weakened body and mind, and money are all the other instruments which the devil uses, in combination, to bring to effect his authority to rule over humanity. II Timothy 2:26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
This grip of the devil over humanity is death. This is where sin has led us. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. It is from this grip and authority of death of the devil that Jesus delivers us through His death on the cross. Hebrews 2:14-15 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, (15) and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
The apostles taught the people how Jesus sets them free from death, which is the authority of the devil. The Jews turned and twisted the matter and accused the apostles of causing social disturbance and anarchy.
It is into this world the Lord is sending us to bring His rule on earth. Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. / John 17:15-18 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (16) They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. (17) Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (18) As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
The devil, who has the world system in his grip, will attack us and seek to prevent us from bringing the authority of God on earth. I John 5:19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. / Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. The Lord has prayed for us to overcome the devil.
Knowing that the devil is prowling around to devour us, we must know our place in Christ. I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. / Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and *over all the power of the enemy*, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Authority of God has been given to the church to rule. Matthew 16:18-19 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
The Lord has given higher authority to the church, which we have to exercise with the keys that the Lord has given, to bring God's kingdom. The keys are our talents, abilities, skills, potentials, professions, responsibilities, culture, language, influence, etc that the Lord has given us to bring His kingdom authority on earth. We must cultivate and develop our keys.
The accusation against the brethren, which was directed at the apostles, was that these had gone against the authority of Caesar. This was not true, but surely the Gospel is against the authority of the devil.
Learning: We must know our battle and also know that our enemy, the devil, is crushed by Jesus on the cross.
