Worshipping God involves reconciliation with people Matthew 6:12
The Lord’s Prayer is about coming before God in worship for who He is.
In the Old Testament period, coming to worship God was a serious matter. God had to be regarded for who He is and there had to be reverence as people came to worship before Him Leviticus 10:3/I Timothy 6:15-16. People came before God with an offering. The offering was a token of their dependence on God, their humility before God and gratitude for all that God was to them I Chronicles 29:14-17/Psalm 96:8
Yet, we find that the Lord was often not pleased with the offering of the people, for the Lord saw that their lives and their relationships with others were not right before Him. God demands justice to flow like a river and righteousness like a mighty stream Amos 5:21-24/Isaiah 1:11-16/Micah 6:6-8.
When we come to the Sermon on the Mount, we find that our Lord is teaching us that when we come to worship God, we must first check if our relationships are right with people. If we remember that our brother has something against us, then we need to first reconcile with our brother, before worshipping God Matthew 5:23-24.
Is that how it is with each of us? Are we checking our spirit, to see if we are right in our relationships with people, before we worship God? Friends, let us understand that worship and prayer to God is not a lip level activity. Worship to God is from the spirit and in truth John 4:24.
Zacchaeus, experienced this turn around in his life as he stood before Jesus. He realised that he had huge relationship issues with people that needed to be set right. As soon as he took the step to settle issues with people, he experienced salvation. He was healed and made whole Luke 19:9-10. Are we willing to take the step of Zacchaeus?
Envy and self seeking in our relationships with people is earthly, sensual and demonic James 3:13-18. We cannot condone these behaviours in us and then expect that our worship to God will be acceptable before Him.
God desires that we pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and in faith I Timothy 2:8. Let us have the humility to confess our issues with one another and pray with one another, before we worship God James 5:16.
Thought to ponder
Settling issues with people is where contriteness and brokenness is birthed, which is the habitation of God.
