22Jan2021 - *Willing and available to be God’s under-shepherds* - _Luke 19:41-44_ - YOU DID NOT KNOW THE TIME OF YOUR VISITATION 2 - _Psalm 78:70-72_
_Luke 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,_
Jesus wept over the city and for its people. His sadness was because the people were not aware of the day of His visitation. They were not in tune with God. People were not desiring the Shalom of God, for the Prince of Peace was there but they were blinded to the things of God.
_Luke 19:42 saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes._
We have discussed this earlier that when people are not passionate for God, then, even the little that they have in them as their love for God, will grow cold.
_Matthew 23:37-39 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (38) See! Your house is left to you desolate;_
The Lord’s pain was that the people and their leaders were not willing to be brought back to an intimate relationship with God. There were no true shepherds to have nurtured the people to God.
The Lord is against those who were to be His under-shepherds but were not.
Why has the Lord called us to be His disciples? Is it for us to become well settled in life? Sadly, many Christians see this as the end objective to be in a relationship with Jesus.
Jesus has called us to carry His cross, which is His pain and His concern for those who are weary and scattered.
So, God is against His shepherds who are not carrying and shouldering with Him the concerns of His heart.
_Jeremiah 10:20-21 My tent is plundered, And all my cords are broken; My children have gone from me, And they are no more. There is no one to pitch my tent anymore, Or set up my curtains. (21) For the shepherds have become dull-hearted, And have not sought the LORD; Therefore they shall not prosper, And all their flocks shall be scattered._
The Lord is telling us, “There is no one to pitch my tent anymore, Or set up my curtains”. Isn’t that a graphic picture to explain to us the pain of God’s heart? Will we repent for being so self-occupied and ask the Lord to fill us with His concerns?
_Jeremiah 23:1-2 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!" says the LORD. (2) Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: "You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings," says the LORD._
God says that He will attend to the evil of the doings of the under-shepherds.
Look at our society and our nations, friends. Look at our people through the eyes of Jesus. How do they look to you? Aren’t they deeply troubled, running to and fro for solutions but are finding none?
When they look at us, the church, do they see in us, the joy of the Lord that in all circumstances we are rested in the Lord and we are in tune with His purposes? Or do they see us weary as the people in the world?
_Jeremiah 50:6-7 “My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; They have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; They have forgotten their resting place. (7) All who found them have devoured them; And their adversaries said, 'We have not offended, Because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, The LORD, the hope of their fathers.'_
The Lord will require the lives of the people from the hands of the shepherds.
_Ezekiel 34:10 Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I am against the shepherds, and *I will require My flock at their hand*; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them."_
God is longing to have shepherds, who will see people the way He sees them and is one with Him in His anguish. This was the reason why the Lord chose David.
_Psalm 78:70-72 He also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds; (71) From following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. (72) So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands._
I’m sure, all of us would like to be counted as ‘David’ but are we willing to have the shepherd’s heart that David had?

```Ministry, to many of us, has become numbers, statistics, budgets, programmes and reports. Will we stop and ask the Lord to give us His heart for people?```
