In these last days, there will opposition to the church from various quarters and in different ways. Yet, we need not fear.
Just as a friend shared with us, the Lord has already won the battle. The devil is a defeated foe. Christ has conquered the devil and his forces, on the cross. We engage the enemy from a position of victory, not from a position of doubting how things would turn out.
We have completed the study of _Luke 22:31-34_, which we had titled as THE VICTORIOUS CHRISTIAN LIFE. We now begin the study of _Luke 22:35-38_, which we will title as THE THINGS CONCERNING JESUS
_Luke 22:35-36 And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." (36) Then He said to them, "*But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one*._
This is a challenging paragraph to study, for this passage sounds contrary to the teaching that Jesus gave His disciples
Why has the Lord given a, seemingly, inconsistent teaching to His character and nature? We do not hear many messages from this section in the Bible.
What had the Lord told His disciples to do, when He sent them out to preach the Goodnews of the Kingdom of God?
_Luke 9:2-3 He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. (3) And He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece._
_Matthew 10:8-10 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. (9) Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, (10) nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food._
Look at the instruction that Jesus gave and then compare it with the portion of our study. There is an opposite ring to it.
From the very beginning, the underlying theme of the Lord’s teaching was that man was to find his shelter in God. Man must come to God and find his habitat in God. Man must live out his life from the place of being in the sanctum of God.
This is the foundational teaching of Jesus.
_Matthew 6:31-33 “Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek. *For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you*._
_Deuteronomy 8:2-3 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. (3) So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that *He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD*._
For us, our life is about being fully satisfied and fulfilled in Christ. We live our life entirely out of our relationship with Jesus.
Let us be clear, this passage is *not* telling us or teaching us anything contrary to God’s nature.
He is telling His disciples of what will happen in the immediate future and what will take place subsequently through history.
Immediately, after this conversation with the disciples, the Lord was crucified and the manner in which He was put to death was shameful. He was beaten, mocked, ridiculed, laughed at, spat upon, slapped, undressed, humiliated and cursed.
The worst that can come out from a human being was unleashed on Jesus and then He was crucified. Those who crucified Jesus had no regret or remorse for what they did to Him but felt justified.
The Lord’s message to the disciples was that if this is what the people of the world did to Him, *they would do more to them*. Therefore, He was preparing them for what was to take place.
After the time of Jesus, the early church went through severe persecution

This is just one example but there has been, throughout history, persecution against the church.
The Lord is telling us that He is sending us out into the world, where the opposition against the kingdom of Jesus will mount, more and more. This is the reality for the church in the end times, where there will be excessive persecution.
When we are aligned with Jesus and His purposes, we must expect and be ready to face opposition.
_John 15:18-21 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. (19) If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but *I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you*. (20) Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, *they will also persecute you*. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. (21) But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me._
This paragraph of study is about our preparation and we must *know all things concerning Jesus* for we are aligned and identified with Him.

```Whether you are aware of it or not, you are enlisted into the army of Jesus. So, be prepared for the battle.```
