Deliverance from sin
36 – 31Jan2024 – *Deliverance from sin* - _Acts 08:09-25_ - THE DELIVERANCE OF SIMON THE MAGICIAN – _Romans 08:03_
_Acts 8:20-23 But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! (21) You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. (22) Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. (23) For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and *bound by iniquity*."_
Peter rebuked Simon by saying that he was bound by iniquity.
Sin is a bondage. People are in captivity to sin and they need to be set free. It is the Lord Jesus who sets people free from the bondage of sin. _John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed._
The Good News of Jesus includes us being set free from the captivity of sin. _Luke 4:18-19 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, *TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES* AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; (19) TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."_
Jesus sets people free but people need to come to Him and receive this deliverance by repenting of their sin and placing their faith in Him.
Zacchaeus was convicted that he had the sin of the love of money, he repented and he was delivered. Whereas, the Rich Young Ruler was not aware that he had the sin of love of money. He was confronted with the sin in him but he chose not to repent and receive the deliverance from Jesus.
*Many are choosing not to be convicted that they have the sin of love of money in them and so there is no repentance and there is no deliverance.*
We must know that sin is slavery. _John 8:34-35 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. (35) And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever._
Many of us think that we sin occasionally and therefore we are not slaves to sin. _Proverbs 5:22 His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin._ Sin itself is a bondage and therefore when we sin, we are accountable for we can never blame someone else, our circumstances or even the devil for our sin. We are individually responsible for our sin before God, for all sin is against God.
We must know that when we sin, we are coming into bondage to the devil. _I John 3:8 *He who sins is of the devil*, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil._
The devil does tempt but we make a choice to yield to sin. _James 1:13-15 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. (14) But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. (15) Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death._
We are enticed by the devil but that happens because we are drawn by our own desires. When desire has conceived it gives birth to sin. We have a law working inside of us. _Romans 7:23-24 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (24) O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?_
This law of sin and death inside of us drives our desire for sin, we are enticed and we yield to sin. This is the law that we inherited from Adam, which is the Adamic nature, the old man, the sinful nature, the self or the ego.
There was no remedy for the problem of sin in us but thanks be to God that He set us free by the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus took on the flesh of Adam, before the fall. He faced and was tempted in all points, yet He was without sin. _Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin._ / _I John 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin._
Jesus overcame and condemned sin in the flesh. _Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,_
Having overcome sin in the flesh, He then paid the price for the sin of the whole world. Sin and the cost of sin, which is death, had to be paid for before God, who is the righteous judge. _II Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him._
