📖 Acts 12:20-25
04 – Tue28Jan2025 – *It is well with my soul* _Acts 12:20-25_ – THE WORD OF GOD GREW – _Haggai 01:08-11_
_Acts 12:20-21 Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food by the king's country. (21) So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them._
When we face our bread concerns what is the Lord teaching us? *He is teaching us to return to Him*.
_Amos 4:6-9 “Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities. And *lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me*," Says the LORD. (7) "I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered. (8) So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; *Yet you have not returned to Me*," Says the LORD. (9) "I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, Your vineyards, Your fig trees, And your olive trees, The locust devoured them; *Yet you have not returned to Me," Says the LORD*.
We have not sought God as our habitat (We live and move and have our being in Him). We come to Him only when we are in a crisis. Otherwise, we live our lives for our bread-based pursuits, but not for pursuing God and His concerns. We know _Matthew 6:33_ by memory, but not by practice.
Consider the cry of God’s heart for His people. _Psalms 81:10-13 I am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; *Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it*. (11) "But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me. (12) So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their counsels. (13) *"Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!*_
The prophecy of Isaiah is for the people of God and God’s concern for them. *It is frightening that many of us read the Old Testament and relegate God's warnings to the Jews, but we conveniently appropriate for ourselves the promises of God*.
_Isaiah 1:2-3 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; (3) The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; But Israel does not know, *My people do not consider*."
_Jeremiah 2:13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water._
It is in God that we have life and light. _Psalms 36:9 For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light._
The Lord longs for us to live in a state where we are satisfied in Him. _John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, (14) *but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." / _John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, *"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink*._
Friend, are you nourished and satisfied in Jesus?
Let us remember that life crises will happen to all of us. There will be times when the storms of life will beat down heavily upon us. Coming to Jesus does not exempt us from encountering the turbulences of life. These will come, *but when we are satisfied in Jesus*, we will be rested even when we are in the vortex of our challenges. We will experience the peace of God, which passes all understanding. _Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus._
God’s abode with us. _Haggai 1:8-11 *Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified," says the LORD*. (9) "You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?" says the LORD of hosts. "*Because of My house that is in ruins*, while every one of you runs to his own house. (10) Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. (11) For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands."_
God’s house represents His abode with us. We live in ruins because our homes, churches, societies and nations are in a state where God’s abode is not with us. We are not disturbed by this situation. We carry on living as though all that matters is our own well-being. We have not realised that we will be ‘well' only when God’s dwelling is with us.
