The call of God
Acts 17 - Series 01/Episode 01 - Sun 13th Sep 2026 - The call of God - Acts 17:01-09 - MINISTRY IN THESSALONICA - Romans 01:16
(Welcome to my website: valentinedavidar.in)
Acts 17:1-3 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. (2) Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, (3) explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ."
Paul and the team travelled via Amphipolis and Apollonia to Thessalonica. At Thessalonica they stopped, for there was a synagogue of the Jews. This was the strategy commanded by God. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
In the ministry that we do, we must know that this is the work that the Lord has commanded us to do. The Lord, by His grace, enabled me to write out my mission in life in the year 1991. Since then, I have refined it. This is how it reads now. To grow in holiness and prayer, teaching and mentoring God's people, so that the church in India and beyond will fulfil its role of being a holy instrument in God's hands, raising the nation from death to Life
My call is to the church in India. This call came to me from several Scripture passages. The first passage that touched me was II Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. The healing of the land is connected directly to the transformation of the people of God, the church. As soon as I gave my life to Jesus, the thought that troubled me was why India has not yet turned to Christ, though we have had the Gospel here for 2000 years. The answer is that the church in India has hindered the growth of the Gospel.
The second passage that has been with me over the years is Matthew 9:36-38 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (37) Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. (38) Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."
The Lord saw the multitudes and His heart was filled with compassion for them. They were weary and scattered like sheep without a shepherd. We, the church in India, must see the need in India. Our people are lost and scattered. They are under the weight of severe oppressions. It is indeed a complicated situation. We, the church in India, are the ones who can truly identify with our people's predicament. We need to have the heart of Jesus for our people in India.
More Western missionaries came to India to share the Gospel than to any other country. Surely, India holds a significant place in the heart of God. How many of us see our lives from this perspective? Mark 8:35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. Many believers in Christ have chosen to emigrate from India. If we have not left India, we have allowed and encouraged our children to leave India. The situation today is that no missionary can come into India to share the Gospel. The church in India must rise. The harvest in India is plentiful, but those with the heart and eyes of Jesus, as He saw the multitudes, are few. The church in India needs to be awakened and equipped to reach our nation of India with the Gospel.
The other passage that touched me deeply was that I was not born in India by accident. The Lord has birthed and nurtured me in a cultural milieu. He did this so that I would be best suited to reach my own people, the people of India, for the Gospel. Acts 17:26-28 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, (27) so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; (28) for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' People must grope for God and find Him, for there are people of God within reach. The church needs to be here in India, in every sphere, for people to reach out and connect with the people of God and find God.
Learning: May each of us be faithful to the call of God on our lives.
