04 – 30Jul2023 – *The fullness of His Holy Spirit in our witness to Christ* - _Acts 06:08-15_ - STEPHEN, FULL OF FAITH AND POWER - Bible reading: _I Corinthians 02:10-13_
“Lord Jesus, teach us to witness You to people in the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. In Your name, we pray. Amen.”
*_Act 6:10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke._*
Stephen was witnessing Jesus in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. This is the experience in which all of us must remain. _Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man, *And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding*._
Our spirit must flow along with or be yielded to His Spirit and then we will be full of God’s understanding. This is an exercise that we need to intentionally put in place in our lives. _Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;_
It was because Stephen walked in the fear of the Lord that he was full of God’s understanding. _Proverbs 2:7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;_
The Holy Spirit reveals the deep things of God to our spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals to us all that the Lord has made available, all His treasures.
_I Corinthians 2:10-13 But *God has revealed them to us through His Spirit*. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. (11) For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, *but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God*. (13) These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual._
We must know, as His disciples, that we have not received the spirit of the world. This points out to us that there is the spirit of the world, which is an alternative. Therefore, with intentionality, we must seek the voice and message of the Holy Spirit, to speak through us in all circumstances. The Holy Spirit longs to reveal the things of God to us but it requires us to put aside every other voice that distracts us. We need to be trained and tuned to listen to His Holy Spirit.
The natural man will be confounded with what the Holy Spirit reveals. _I Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned._
Though Stephen’s opponents were all scholars of the Old Testament, they were operating from the basis of the flesh. Therefore, they were not able to contradict the wisdom of the Spirit of God, who was operating through Stephen.
Stephen was presenting Christ to these scholars from the Scriptures. _II Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work._ *The Scriptures are breathed by His Holy Spirit.* _II Peter 1:20-21 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, (21) for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit._
Stephen was not trying to convince his audience with persuasive words of human wisdom but by the Holy Spirit. _I Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, (5) that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God._
Stephen’s intention was clear. He was not wanting them to believe in Him but he wanted his audience to place their trust and walk in obedience to God.
It is His Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth. Stephen was operating on this promise of our Lord Jesus. _John 16:13-14 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (14) He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you._
Ultimately, the witness of Stephen was to reconcile people to God and bring people into God’s kingdom, which is the work of His Holy Spirit. _Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit._
