Acts 17 - Series 02/Episode 18 - Mon 26th Oct 2026 - The role of the Jews - Acts 17:10-15 - MINISTRY IN BEREA - Isaiah 49:06

Acts 17:13-14 But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the crowds. (14) Then immediately the brethren sent Paul away, to go to the sea; but both Silas and Timothy remained there.

It is indeed sad to see that the Jews, instead of being a blessing to the nations, have been instrumental in denying the world the Gospel. There are also people such as Paul, a Jew, who have blessed the world through the Gospel. The covenant of God with Abraham was that he had to be a blessing to the nations of the earth. Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

God chose Israel to be a blessing to all nations. Through Israel would come the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of salvation. Yet the New Testament records that many opposed Jesus and the Gospel, including some Jewish religious leaders. At the same time, many Jews believed in Jesus, including the apostles and the early church.

Isaiah 49:6 Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.' " / Isaiah 2:2-5 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. (3) Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (4) He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. (5) O house of Jacob, come and let us walk In the light of the LORD. Israel was set apart as a nation for God. Exodus 19:5-6 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.(6) And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."

Israel has special privileges, which no other nation has. Romans 9:4-5 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; (5) of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

Salvation is of the Jews. John 4:22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. The Jews have no excuse for denying Jesus, for He came in the lineage of Moses. Deuteronomy 18:18-19 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. (19) And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

The Jews were made to understand this lineage. Acts 3:20-26 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, (21) whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. (22) For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'THE LORD YOUR GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR BRETHREN. HIM YOU SHALL HEAR IN ALL THINGS, WHATEVER HE SAYS TO YOU. (23) AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERY SOUL WHO WILL NOT HEAR THAT PROPHET SHALL BE UTTERLY DESTROYED FROM AMONG THE PEOPLE.' (24) Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. (25) You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'AND IN YOUR SEED ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.' (26) To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities."

Yet, the Jews have both been an obstacle to the Gospel as well as a blessing, such as Paul, the apostles and myriads of others over history.
