Acts 15 - Series 2/Episode 12 - Sat, 18th Apr 2026 - Favoured of God - Acts 15:22-35 - THE ANNOUNCEMENT - Proverbs 03:03-04

Acts 15:25-27 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, (26) men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (27) We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth.

The leaders of the church at Jerusalem saw Paul and Barnabas as beloved and as men who had risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Is this our testimony? It is not that we chase after a good testimonial from people. We seek the Lord, and when we do so, the Lord establishes our life and witness among others.

We seek the Lord and walk in His ways. The rest follows. Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. We commit our ways to the Lord, and we trust in Him. *Trusting in the Lord is about living in the habitat of God*. Psalms 37:5-6 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. (6) He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. God will bring out our righteousness.

We must be humble before the Lord, and He will lift us up in His time and in His ways. I Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

To humble ourselves before the Lord is to be contrite and broken before Him. All our righteousness is like filthy rags before God, who is holy. Isaiah 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. Our iniquity is that we have chosen to rebel against God and go our own way. Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

When we come before God, we must come with utter brokenness. Luke 18:13-14 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

This was the quality of life that Paul and Barnabas had, that they did not exalt themselves but remained humble. We see that they always gave glory to God for all that the Lord accomplished through them. Acts 14:27 Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. This was how Paul saw himself. Philippians 3:9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

Since it was the Lord that Paul and Barnabas honoured, the Lord honoured them. I Samuel 2:30 Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: 'I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.' But now the LORD says: 'Far be it from Me; *for those who honor Me I will honor*, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

God blesses us before others when we seek Him in secret. Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Paul spent much time away from the eyes of people. Galatians 2:1-2 Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and also took Titus with me. (2) And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.

God established the work of the hands of Barnabas and Paul. Acts 14:3 Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. God establishes the work of our hands when we walk in His ways. Psalm 90:17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Proverbs 3:3-4 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, (4) And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. Mercy and truth came together in Jesus Christ for Barnabas and Paul, and so they were honoured before God and man.
